The Overlooked Way to Build Affordable, Sustainable Homes

In this episode Imogen speaks to Richard Hall, an Indigenous Leader from Nuxalk Nation, a First Nation community in Bella Coola on British Columbia’s Central Coast. Equipped with 35 years of experience in the construction sector, Richard put pen to paper to establish The West Coast Building Standard to create culturally appropriate, affordable, and energy-efficient homes for coastal and other indigenous communities.

To further future-proof Bella Coola, he has been behind a home construction programme teaching community members how to build to this new standard and leverage local supply chains. Special thanks to BC Housing for providing footage of Bella Coola www.bchousing.org
