Many dams worldwide are decades old, posing a significant challenge: how can these critical bits of clean energy infrastructure continue to generate hydroelectricity while meeting increasing energy demand and undergoing essential upgrades? We visited BC Hydro’s 77-year-old John Hart Dam on Vancouver Island, where the team is implementing massive seismic upgrades to ensure the dam can withstand level 9 earthquakes and still operate safely.
This staggering engineering project presents a whole host of super interesting technical challenges, innovative ways to protect local water supplies and salmon population and offers substantial opportunities for the local community. Join Imogen as she finds out more!
