To memorably mark the eclipse and show the power of solar on even the darkest of days, leading eco-tech brand Hive reimagined Stonehenge as Solar Henge, a striking recreation made entirely from solar panels.
The installation powered the ultimate eco viewing party, with a food and drinks truck, plus lighting and music to set the scene for celestial celebrations.
Debunking Solar Myths
The striking structure directly debunked common solar myths, with new research from Hive revealing that nearly one in five people believe the UK simply doesn’t receive enough sunshine for solar panels to be effective.
Additionally, 11% mistakenly think that solar panels stop working for hours during events like a solar eclipse.
Dan Rosenfield, Hive’s Managing Director, comments:
“Solar panels are designed to generate energy from daylight – not just direct sunlight. Even on cloudy days, solar technology operates efficiently, proving that the UK’s weather is no obstacle to harnessing renewable energy.”
The Power of Solar
The research also highlighted the appeal of eco-tech, with 68 per cent expressing a desire for their homes to be powered entirely by renewable energy.
When it comes to solar, nearly a tenth (9 per cent) incorrectly assume that the energy generated that isn’t used immediately, simply goes to waste.
But, with the simple addition of a battery homeowners can benefit from storing power to use later – or reduce their bills further by selling excess power back to the national grid!
Nearly half (48 per cent) of those interested in solar are not only motivated by the environmental benefits but also by the prospect of reducing their energy bills (68% percent).

Know Your Power
Hive research also indicated a lack of awareness around where energy comes from, as over a quarter (27 per cent) couldn’t explain how their electrical and gas devices are powered in their home, with 29 per cent also confused by how power is produced.
Hive aims to put the power in your hands. So, whether you caught a glimpse of the eclipse or not, remember that whatever the weather, solar is always an efficient option.
Dan Rosenfield, added:
“Many homes and businesses across the country are already benefiting from solar power, reducing their energy bills and cutting their carbon footprint – proof that solar works, rain or shine.”
