Following on from Rishi Sunak’s shock announcement on oil and gas licences, we have heard that the UK’s flagship environmental policy (the ZEV Mandate) is under threat right now.
We are led to believe that there might even be another unpleasant announcement as soon as Thursday (tomorrow) or Friday.
We do not need to remind regular viewers of the FullyCharged.SHOW – or indeed attendees to the FullyCharged.LIVE exhibitions – what is at stake, or the untold damage this u-turn could do.
We would simply suggest that now would be the perfect time to write an impassioned email to your MP and to put pressure on our politicians in general, and the cabinet in particular.
A directory of MPs email addresses is easily accessible HERE.
Your emails could be our only hope of preventing a policy reversal that is neither on ‘the side of the motorist‘ as Sunak recently claimed he is, nor on ‘the side of businesses’ either.
After all, under the current policy, people can still purchase new petrol and diesel hybrids up until 2035, and can continue to buy used combustion engine vehicles beyond that date.
But the word ‘ban’ is being used extensively to prejudice people against this policy, and to create the impression of a ‘cliff edge’ with grave consequences.
And yet, as we know from our (and your) personal experience, electric vehicles are really rather good, and as sales increase are very much the here and now, as well as the future.
With thanks, Robert Llewellyn, Dan Caesar and the team.
