RAC's EV Boost, Home Charging & Smart Tariff Solutions

In this product showcase we spoke to the RAC’s head of technical James Gibson and director of EVs Sarah Winward-Kotecha to find out how the RAC is helping EV drivers who run out of charge or break down.

RAC's EV Boost, Home Charging & Smart Tariff Solutions

Continuing its long history of innovating to solve drivers’ challenges, the RAC is already equipped to help EV drivers who run out of charge or break down.

EV Boost, which has been developed with a British engineering company, is designed to get a flat or severely depleted EV going again in around 30 minutes. The charger is powered by a lightweight generator fitted to the breakdown van’s engine, avoiding the need for heavy batteries that need recharging after each use.

The RAC has also adapted the rapid deployment trailer in RAC vans to create the All Wheels Up recovery system to enable patrols to tow broken-down EVs safely with the drive wheels off the road so that a separate recovery truck isn’t needed.

And to help more drivers go electric the RAC is now giving drivers the chance to lease EVs affordably and get a home charger installed, complete with an off-peak specialist EV tariff. It’s also got a team of EV Experts ready to answer drivers’ questions and a host of online guides to help with choosing, charging and running an EV.
